Harry L. Roth passed away, at his home in Shawnee, KS, on January 13, 2017. He was 79 years old. Harry was born in Bismarck, North Dakota to Stanley D and Lucile G Roth. He spent his formative years in Olathe, KS with his brothers Stan Jr. and John. He was an Eagle Scout and received the God and Country award. He earned a degree from the Kansas State Teachers College, in Emporia, where he also met the love of his life Marcina. On August 16, 1959 they were married. They built a house together in Shawnee, KS. On Aug. 31, 1962 Harry started teaching at Shawnee Mission North High School where he remained for his entire career until retiring after 41 years. He taught many subjects but was best known as a Biology teacher. In the early years of his time at North he coached the swim team, managed the scoreboard for football games, and worked the SMN Track and Field Relays. During the summer season, he supervised Tomahawk swimming Pool. In 1980 Marcina passed away from cancer and Harry went on to raise their two children as a single parent. He loved riding his motorcycle and circled the country on a number of cross country road trips. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, the game of bridge, and crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Army Reserves. In 1990 Harry received an award from Johnson County Park and Recreation for 20 years of outstanding service. He is survived by his daughter Sherry, his son Matt, Granddaughter Lorelei and his brothers Stan and John.

Visitation from 10-11 am on Saturday, January 21st, at Amos Family Funeral Home with a celebration of life to immediately follow also at Amos Family Funeral Home. Burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to The American Cancer Society in Harry’s name.
