Helen E. Allison, 97, of Shawnee, passed away Saturday, December 26, at Menorah Medical Center.
Helen was born September 11, 1918 in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Ansel and Anna Theresa Stubbs. A lifelong Kansas City area resident, Helen graduated from Northeast High School. During WWII, Helen served the war effort by working for Pratt and Whitney. After the war, she married George Aubrey Allison in 1945.
Helen was an avid crossword puzzle and Scrabble enthusiast and enjoyed listening to her grandchildren play the piano and attending their events. She was also proud of having been a "Life Saver" girl, promoting the popular candy when she was a young woman.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Karen K. Allison and her husband Gary Gallimore; a son Ronald C. Allison and wife Neva; two grandsons, Robert G. Gallimore and wife Brooke; George A. Allison-Gallimore; granddaughter, Molly C. Allison-Gallimore; a sister, Margery Stubbs Handy and husband Russell.
She is also preceded in death by her four brothers, Ansel, DeWitt, Franklin, and Paul Stubbs.
Visitation will be 1 pm to 2 pm, Wednesday, December 30th at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband at Highland Park Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shawnee Meals on Wheels, c/o Shawnee Presbyterian Church, 6837 Nieman Road, Shawnee, KS 66203.
