Helen "Grandma" and "Gigi" L. Henthorne, a cherished soul born on July 14, 1946, in Maryland, peacefully passed away on February 8, 2025, in Kansas at the age of 78. Her life was a testament to compassion, resilience, and love, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met.
A dedicated in-home nurse for most of her career, Helen had an unwavering passion for caring for the elderly. Her gentle hands and kind spirit brought comfort and healing to countless individuals, embodying the true essence of nursing. Her work was not just a profession but a calling that she fulfilled with grace and dedication.
Helen had a profound love for reading and crocheting, spending countless hours lost in the world of books or crafting beautiful creations. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially when surrounded by her beloved family. Her warmth and laughter could light up any room, creating cherished memories for those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Preceded in death by her mother Ruth Cowan, father Clifford Henthorne, stepfather John Cowan, sister Joanna Cowan, and many cousins and other family members. Helen's legacy continues through the lives she touched. She is survived by her loving sons, John W. Cowan and Jack C. Yadon; her devoted daughter-in-law, Tonya Yadon; her treasured granddaughters, Crystal Smith, Savannah Yadon, and Ashley Yadon; and her dear great-grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Daniel Smith, Ava Andrews, and Sawyer Andrews. Her niece, Kris Hare Downing, also carries forward Helen's spirit and love.
Helen's departure leaves a void that will be felt deeply by all who knew her. We will miss her enormously here on earth, where she shared her wisdom and love so freely.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. at Amos Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS. In honor of Helen's memory, we invite family and friends to gather afterward for a dinner at one of her favorite restaurants, where we can share stories and remember the incredible woman she was.
