Helen Skaggs

Helen Skaggs, 99, a lifelong Shawnee resident passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at Shawnee Gardens. Helen was born November 15, 1911, to the late Sven and Elisabeth Holmberg in Shawnee.

Helen graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School in 1929. In 1941 she married Cecil Skaggs. He preceded her in death after 43 years of marriage on January 16, 1984. Helen enjoyed traveling and visited Singapore, England, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska.

She is survived by her three sons, Robert L. Skaggs, Richard L. Skaggs, and James E. Skaggs.

A visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the chapel, followed by burial in Pleasant View Cemeteryin Shawnee.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, Missouri 64111; or to Hospice Care of Kansas, 15329 W. 95th Street, Lenexa, Kansas 66219.
