Henry George Guebert

Henry George Guebert, of Overland Park, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 11, 2012.

He was born in Bourbon, Missouri, to the Rev. Alex and Henriette Guebert, the eldest of seven children, WWII Army veteran and graduate of Michigan State University. Henry worked as an accountant for Ralston Purina in St. Louis, Western Alfalfa in Mission, Kansas, and G.E. Credit Services in Lenexa. He began his accounting career with Purina in St. Louis, then was transferred to Riverside and Lancaster, California, and finally Mission, Kansas.

Henry was a member of the Greatest Generation and served in the 95th Infantry Division, 377th Regiment as a machine gunner, Private 1st Class in General Patton's Third Army. He received the Purple Heart for injuries incurred in combat on December 25, 1944, as he so liked to tell, and Combat Infantryman Badge for combat operations in the Battle of the Bulge.

Henry was quite active in LCMS congregations over the years and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church since 1971.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Huning) Guebert, his brothers Alex and Robert and his sister Betty. He is lovingly survived by son, David of Escondido; daughter, Janet Bucher of Overland Park; son Jeffrey of Wichita; sisters Joy Reid, Dorothy Brewer and Edith Haber; four grandchildren, Jason of Austin, Sara Blunck of Indianapolis, Jim of Kansas City, and Abby of Mission; five great-grandchildren, Nora, Reese, Landon and Molly Bucher and Mason Blunck, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2012, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. Funeral will immediatly follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, Music Department.
