Hugh K. Roe

October 22, 1925 — March 20, 2009

Hugh K. Roe, passed away, Friday,March 20, 2009 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He was born in Abilene, Texas on October 22, 1925. He graduated from high school in Dickson, Oklahoma in 1943. He received his college degree from Northeastern College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Mr. Roe received his master's degree in education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Mr. Roe served as an officer in the United States Merchant Marine from 1943 to 1947. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953.

Mr. Roe was in education for 32 years including 25 years with the Fort Worth ISD. He retired in 1985 as a life member of the National Education Association and the Texas State Teachers Association.

Mr. Roe considered himself to be fortunate to have a loving wife and seven wonderful children. He enjoyed his many relatives and friends including coworkers and students in the Ft. Worth ISD. Mr. Roe attended services with his wife at St. George Catholic Church.

Hugh K. Roe is survived by his wife of 57 years Jeanne Marie Peters of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Children are Susan Roe (Rene duCret), Elizabeth Barton (Mark), Thomas Roe (Lucia), James Roe (Elizabeth), Jeanne Dillenbeck (Todd), Patricia Maguire (Gary), and Robert Roe (Shelley). Grandchildren are Jennifer Kachel (Cody), Taylor and Alex Barton, Daniel Roe, Joshua and Matthew Roe, Colby and Cassey Dillenbeck, and Wyatt, Isabel and Eli Roe. Surviving siblings are Betty Tom Thomas, Mildred Mobbs, Martha John and Daniel Roe.

His family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Hugh K. and Jeanne Roe Scholarship Fund, c/o Community Foundation of North Texas, 306 West Seventh Street, Fort Worth Club Building, Suite 306, Fort Worth, Texas 76102 (817.877.0702).

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation for family and friends will be at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, on Thursday, March 26 from 5-7 PM. Funeral service will be at 9 AM on Friday, March 27 at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee followed by internment at 11 AM at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 4101 S. 4th Street, Leavenworth, Kansas.
