Ida Maurine Buckner

August 10, 1925 — April 29, 2016

Ida Maurine Buckner, 90, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on April 29, 2016. Maurine was born August 10, 1925 in Cordell, Oklahoma and grew up with her mom, dad, and five brothers on their family farm in Cordell, surviving the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. Her life brought her to Kansas City in 1951. After her husband died in 1963, she was a single parent to six children between the ages three and sixteen. Raising them and guiding them into lives of their own was one of her life's great successes. With her children raised, she worked in the day care at Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 20 years. She earned the title of teacher, which was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for her. She enjoyed visiting and sharing stories with family, friends, and neighbors, sewing quilts for her children and grandchildren, crocheting winter hats for the poor and homeless, and watching the Kansas City Royals. Maurine is survived by her six children she raised and loved, Linda Curtis, Larry (Carolyn) Buckner, Brenda (Chuck) Lloyd, Beverly Carter, Sharon Buckner, and Jeannie (Alan) Young, her brother, Harvey Botchlet, her 16 grandchildren, and her 16 great-grandchildren. Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her mother, Ida, her father, Clyde, and four of her brothers, Chuck, Harold, Jerry, and Lloyd. Her family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, caregivers, volunteers, neighbors, and friends that joined them in helping Maurine live a full and comfortable life.
