Ivy Eloise Henderson was born on August 8th, 2024 – the eighth day of the eighth month. She was the eighth of eight daughters and lived on this earth eight weeks to the day. Ivy will providentially rest in section eight of a memory garden, at the feet of her Grandpa Bill who passed away at the age of eighty-eight. Some would say the Bible points to the number eight as a symbol for a Resurrection and new beginnings. The Henderson family firmly believes that Ivy’s life began a beautiful beginning for many people that will be transformed by the Lord, thus leaving an eternal legacy.
Both Ivy’s life and death have brought her family closer to Christ and are already causing His light to shine on so many others. From entering the world after a long delivery to leaving this world much earlier than expected, her birth and passing were perfectly ordained by her God and Creator. On October 3rd, 2024, Ivy went to sleep only to wake up in the loving care of her Heavenly Father.
Ivy loved taking naps with her Dad while lying on his chest as he sang her Silent Night. She also loved when her Mom gave her warm, soothing baths. Ivy’s favorite pastimes were taking in the new sights and sounds of each day as her sisters dressed her, sang to her, held her, danced with her, fed her, cuddled with her, took naps with her, comforted her when she cried, smiled at her, went on walks with her and watched over her as she slept.
From the day she was born to the day she went home to be with Jesus, Ivy received so much love from her parents, sisters, family members and friends. She was precious and her sweet smiles melted everyone. Ivy truly lived up to her name which in Hebrew means “God’s gift.”
Ivy will always remain a part of the Henderson family. Pacifiers, blankies, onesies, hats and pictures are all joyful reminders of Ivy’s precious life, but the most powerful and lasting thing she left behind was the reminder to all of us that God is good, He is sovereign, and His mercies are new every morning. She will be forever remembered and her family eagerly awaits the blessed reunion that is in store when Jesus returns or calls them home.
Grandpas Bill Henderson and Art Dohl arrived in Heaven before Ivy. Those who remain are Ivy’s parents, Devin and Lynn and her sisters Claire, Charlotte, Cambry, Elsie, Eva, Emme and Haven. Grandmas Ginger Henderson and Justine Dohl also eagerly await a heavenly reunion along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and sweet friends.
Although we ache for her during our time on this earth, we do not grieve like those who have no hope. This life will be nothing compared to the eternity we will have with her in our arms once again. We know that Ivy was placed here to glorify God through her life and death and we will never stop worshiping the Lord and thanking Him for Ivy. We live with the knowledge that one day we will be reunited with our sweet Ivy and we look toward that day with longing and hope.
