J. Edward Mccormick

March 20, 1922 — February 20, 2014

Ed was born March 20, 1922 in Denver Colorado to Ty & Lillian McCormick. He passed away on February 20, 2014, exactly one month shy of his 92nd birthday. On December 20, 1941 Ed enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, 13 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served his country until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sargent on February 5, 1946. He fought alongside his comrades in Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa & China, in the 6th Marine Division. Ed returned to Denver after his discharge. Prior to his military service, Ed was a Packard Automobile Master Mechanic. He was employed by A.T.&T. for more than 40 years before he retired. Ed is survived by his wife, Ermalene(Hutchinson), 5 children: Kathleen Lord(Mark), Joan, Dennis(Theresa), Daniel(Sherry), & Jeffrey. Ed also had an infant son, Gregg Edward, who predeceased him. He frequently talked about how he wanted a big family as he was lonesome being an only child. Ed had 14 grandchildren: Matthew, Michael, Dan, Aimee, Jonathan, Tracey, Meghan, Sharla, Tiffany, Joshua, Jacob, Elizabeth, Olivia & Jake. He had 8 great grandchildren & a sixth great grandchild is due in June of this year: Jacob, Kameron, Tyler, Taite, Cooper, Kinley Joy, Graham, Ellie Jewell & Baby Farmer. Ed enjoyed watch and jewelry repair along with gem setting. He was long time Ham Radio operator achieving an Amateur Radio Extra Class License. Throughout his life Ed owned and enjoyed numerous sports cars, Z cars, Alfa Romeos, and in recent years sharing in the ownership of a number Ferraris, Jaguars and Porsches. He also was a dog lover and had numerous dogs throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his dear dear Bassett Hound, Big Mac. Ed loved his country and flew the American & Marine Corps flags proudly in front of the family home. His faith, courage, strength and love of family were an inspiration. He faced his final days with the same courage and sense of humor with which he had faced many trials in his life.

Visitation & Funeral Service

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will follow at 7:30 also at the funeral home. Ed will be buried with full military honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, next to his mother, Lillian.
