Jack Alexander Yates

Jack Alexander Yates, 89, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away September 28, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born December 7, 1928 in Gallatin, Missouri to Ralph and Frances Yates. On February 18, 1950 He married Jessie Sandy at St. James church in Kansas City, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jessie S. Yates; and sister, Sue Fender just 10 months ago. Left to treasure his memory are his children/grandchildren, Dirk (Ralph and Rebecca and husband, John), Dan and Deanne (Bret, Leslie and husband Buddy, Kali, and Max) and Jill (Jack and Katherine) and his great-grandchild Dirk.   Jack and Jessie were members of St Joseph Catholic Church for over 60 years.

Jack was the General Manager of Lake Quivira for many years before taking a position as Project Manager for Loch Lloyd. He took pride in his work and left a piece of his heart in both places. He served as a volunteer fireman at Lake Quivira and was instrumental in establishing Shawnee Fire Station #3, serving as Fire Chief of the volunteer department for many years. Jack and Jessie were both EMT's and helped establish the first rescue squad in that area.  Jack was a craftsman, the hand-hewn barn he built at his home is a lasting testament to his skill and creativity. His true pride and joy were his family, especially his grandchildren, he attended every event he possibly could. His stature and presence were larger than life but to his family he will be remembered as "grandpa" a big man with a big heart that loved animals, especially his dog,  Clancy.

Visitation on Wednesday, October 3 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home with a Rosary starting at 5:30 pm. Funeral Mass at 10:00 am Thursday, October 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Shawnee KS. Lunch served in church following graveside.
