Jacqueline Jill Leonard

Jacqueline Jill Leonard, 71, died on April 25, 2019 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Jill was born on June 16, 1947 in Prairie Village, Kansas, to the late Rolf and Margaret (Peggy) Stanford. She was the second of four siblings. In 1979 she was married in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California to Phillip Leonard, who survives.

She graduated from Tulane University.  She was a planner for the City of Kansas City, Kansas in the Planning Department, Community Development Department, and Housing Authority. After her retirement, she was an extremely successful freelance grant writer, bringing in millions of dollars of grant funding for local community development.

Jill was a longtime member of the Kansas City Region of the Sports Car Club of America, and a founding member of the Leaping Lizards corner crew. Her deep love for animals led to her involvement in dog rescue and the Great Plains Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Leonard, brothers Jeff and Cary, and cousins Barry, Chuck, Doug and Gene. She was preceded in death by her parents Rolf and Peggy Stanford, her brother John Patrick, and her grandmother, affectionately known as "Mutti."

Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery, 701 N 94 St in Kansas City, Kansas on Sunday, May 5 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Great Plains SPCA, 5424 Antioch Drive, Merraim, KS 66202
