Jackie Lyons Mellon, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully of multiple myeloma, on Friday, November 1, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
The daughter of Jack & Gerry Lyons, Jackie was born on December 2, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a graduate of St. Agnes Elementary School and graduated in 1966 from Bishop Miege High School. Upon graduation, Jackie worked for many years at AT&T both in Kansas City, Missouri and for a short time in Dallas, TX. She made many life-long friends at AT&T and kept in touch with them after her retirement. Her friends were very dedicated to her and met with her as often as possible for dinners and lunches and just to visit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack & Gerry Lyons, her sister, Paula Hellman-Lee, and her brother John Lyons.
Her survivors include her two loving sons and daughter - in-law who were her pride and joy, Andy Mellon, Jon Mellon and wife Kristi. The light of her life was her granddaughter, Hannah, "Little Angel." She is also survived by Hannah's mother, Theresa. She leaves her loving brother, Jim Hellman and three devoted sisters, Mary Ann Pippen (Artie) and Barbara Schell (Greg) and Gigi Hellman. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and great nephews and nieces: Kelly Pippen Dawson (Del), Geralyn Schell Hodges (Cameron), Tracy Pippen Brennan (Tim), Bridget Schell (Dave) Latty, Ryan Hodges, Gracie Hodges, Luke Hodges, Caleb Hodges, Kimberly Dawson, Daniel Brennan, and Timothy Latty. She leaves her only remaining uncle, Paul Sine, and cousins, Ed Sine, Tim Sine (Cindy), Joe Lyons (Jane) and Jan Lyons. Jackie will be remembered for her strong commitment to her family, her positive spirit, her wonderful sense of humor, her laughter, her kindness, her generosity and her devotion to all those she loved. She will be missed by many. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at St. Luke's Hospital who were so kind and caring to her during her cancer journey, especially Dr. Gaur, Dr. Wall, Dr. Kuruvilla, Dr. Mallouk, Dr. Hart, and Dr. Johnson. We are especially grateful for all the kindness and love she received from every person at St. Luke's Hospice House where she was treated with dignity, respect, kindness and love in her final days.
Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203 with a Rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November, 7, 2013, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson, Mission, Kansas 66202.
