James A. Beaumont passed away Nov 22, 2017 in Shawnee, KS. He was born in Kansas City, KS in 1938. He attended Shawnee Mission High School and served in the Navy. He was stationed in Guantanamo Bay during the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
James was married to Carole Minich in 1963 and divorced in 1980. He loved cars, his many beloved dogs (Bo, Duke, Rowdy, Buddy, Max and Brutus) and his daily drives thru the park with them. He used to take his mom, Helen Beaumont, along with him on these rides thru the park after going to dinner at Old Country Buffet. He was known by those close to him as one of the most strong-willed people they have ever known. He used this will power to overcome obstacles in life that included Stage 4 cancer, brain aneurism, stroke and kidney failure among other things.
The family is ever impacted not just by his ability to fight adversity but to do so without ever complaining. James was well-known for having no filter. If he thought something you heard about it; good or bad. He could get away with saying things that most people would shudder at the thought of because people recognized something very special about him. He was genuine. He cared nothing about what others thought about him or how he looked, what he drove or where he lived. He many times said "I am the luckiest guy I know. I have all the money I need to buy whatever I want. I just don’t want anything."
His disregard for the perception of others contributed to a very unusual character trait. He never lied. He never did anything that he was ashamed of or tried to hide therefore he never felt compelled to tell a lie. After 8 years of full time kidney dialysis the elected to stop. He wanted to go out on his terms. Doctors prognosticated he would survive 10-17 days. It was no shock however to those close to him that he lasted over 60 days. It was just one more statement about his indefatigable nature. He is survived by his sons Steve Beaumont and Scott Beaumont.
He was the proud grandfather of Colton, Shelby, Ethan, Sophia, Alexis and Charley. He will be missed but not forgotten.
Graveside services will be held at 11AM Nov. 28th at Johnson County Memorial Gardens 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS.
