James Edward Burnett, 84, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, Kansas, surrounded by his family and beloved Jazzy and Angel.
James was born September 16, 1928, in Kelso, Arkansas, to Leslie and Lenny Burnett. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. James owned and operated Burnett Construction. He was a very active member of the Village West Church, teaching Sunday School for over 40 years, serving with the Royal Ranger and ushering. James was active in the restoration of Old Shawnee Town.
James was dedicated to his family and church. A very heartfelt, caring, giving and strong person, he always looked out for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona (Bussone) Burnett; his three sons, Edward (Kay) Burnett, Olathe, Kansas, Earl (Michelle) Burnett, Shawnee, Kansas, and Leslie (Sandy) Burnett, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; daughter, Tammye (Gary) Bosley, Olathe, Kansas; brother, Tom (Shirley) Burnett; two sisters, Garnett Hickey and Rulene Kelley, both of Shawnee, Kansas; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11:30-1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m.; burial in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
