James "Jim" Willis Hultman, 93, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Jim was born on December 5, 1925 to Alma (Loeb) and John William Hultman in Oelwein, Iowa. He was the eldest boy in a family of 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Having been raised on the farm, he moved to Kansas City in 1952, having served in both the Infantry and Air Force during WWII. He married Edith Eleanor Patch in June of 1953. Their first child, Debbie arrived in 1954, followed by John and James Jr (Jim) across the next 6 years. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Business from AIB College in Des Moines, Iowa, he went to work for General Motors as an Accountant. Shortly after their marriage, he joined the family restaurant business, where he spent the next 25 years. In 1981, Jim completed his apprenticeship and was certified as a Journeyman Roofer, where he worked until a well deserved retirement. After retirement, he discovered the hobbies of both square dancing and golf (he tore up the greens in the morning and the dance floor in the evening!). One of Dad's greatest passions came about 8 years ago when he started serving at the Village Church Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. Throughout our lives, Dad was an incredible teacher! But he didn't teach through just wordsâ¦but also by his actions! He taught us an incredible work ethic, but most importantly, he taught us to love. He prepared us to be loving spouses and parents, and he also taught us to have compassion and love for others! For me, there are 62 years of wonderful memories that I could share about my Dadâ¦today, I would like to share one. On Tuesday morning, as Dad's doctor came in to check on him, she looked at Dad and said "Jim, I'm officially changing your name to Ironman, I have never seen anyone with the strength and fortitude that you have". As we celebrate Dad going to his new Home, not only is he Dad, for me, he truly is IRONMAN!
