James T. Klamm was born June 17, 1928 at home in Parkville, Missouri to Walter and Nellie Klamm. Growing up on a farm, he did farm chores helping to support family truck farming with his seven siblings. He graduated from North Kansas City High School, North Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Finley Engineering School of Kansas City graduating with an engineering degree in 1956.
Jim worked as a civil engineer for 40 years at Black and Veatch retiring in 1993 working on many projects. He was a member of ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers) serving a variety of roles in that organization.
Jim was a long time member of Southminster Presbyterian Church as an elder, deacon, and a member of its Building and Grounds Committee. At times, he was the only one to keep the boiler alive for a morning service. He also contributed in a variety of ways at the church including constructing a Peanut Butter Tree to collect jars of peanut butter to find the hungry at Christmas.
Jim was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers bringing joy to his family. He did many woodworking projects around the house and for others. He also served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity to bring housing to those in need. He was active in the Prairie Ridge Homes Association where he loved bringing the islands to bloom in summer.
Jim enjoyed traveling with his family throughout the United States. After his retirement, he and his wife Carolyn traveled the world including trips to the Holy Land, Australia, Europe and numerous river cruises. With kids in tow they took long trips to Missouri, Minnesota, Arizona, California, and Washington D.C. These trips instilled a sense of adventure in his children.
Jim is survived by his son Keith (Cyndie) of Dallas TX and daughter Judy of Kansas City, Mo, brother Phil (Shirley) of Cedarburg, WI, sisters Martha (George) of Mission, KS, and Dorothy of Overland Park, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his parents, brothers Walter, John, and Clarence and sister Helen, and an infant son.
