James R. Sands

James R. Sands died on May 6, 2010 at home from complications of lifelong diabetes.

Jim was born on March 19, 1940 in Ottawa, Kansas, to Mamie and Goldie Sands. He received an accounting degree from Rockhurst College, and was a self-employed CPA. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved baseball, fishing, and hunting. He particularly enjoyed sharing all these activities with his children and grandchildren.

Jim was a devoted husband and loving and fun father and grandfather. Nothing meant more to him than family. He had a zest for life and an infectious grin that no one could resist. He was his wife’s “go-to-guy", his children’s guiding hand, and his grandchildren's gateway to fun and laughter. He will be sorely missed!

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jane Kramer. He is survived by his wife, Dee; his children Nick (Susan) Sands, Wendy (Jayme) Hugeback, Danny Sands, Paul Sands; grandchildren Maddison, Noah, and Ethan Hugeback, Morgan and Colton Sands, Caitlin Fine; nephews Clay (Roz) Kramer and Tim (Joan) Kramer; and grand-nieces Kimberly Kramer and Ashley Kramer.

Visatation and Funeral Services

Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shawnee, Kansas.
