James R. Saner, 73, of Shawnee, KS, passed away, Monday, April 27, 2020. Funeral services will be private on Wednesday, May 6th at Central Church of the Nazarene.

Jim was born September 21, 1946 in ElDorado, KS to Ralph M. and Billie I. Kersey Saner. He served in the USAF during the Viet Nam War Era. He loved our USA and is very proud that he has a Grandson in the US Navy and a Granddaughter in the USAF. He married the love of his life, Patricia Elaine Byrd, August 31, 1968 in Shawnee, KS. She survives at the home. He was a member of Central Church of the Nazarene in Lenexa, KS.
Additional survivors include his children: Lora A. Swenson and husband, Jake, Louisburg, KS, James Russell Saner II (Russ) and wife, Kira, Key West, FL and Rae' Michelle Cody and husband, Steve, Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Samantha Stapp, Nate Swenson, Trenton Saner, Hanna Saner, Blake Stapp, Isabella Saner, Jacob Borders and Melba Rae' Cody and his siblings: Thomas E. Saner, Shawnee, KS, Linda R. Willis, Chesapeake, VA and Mary K. Sgromolo, Portal, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret L. Kevern.
Jim owned his own remodeling company for over 30 years. He loved helping people and working hard. He Graduated High School from Kansas City College and Bible School class of 1964. Graduated from Metropolitan Community College , attended Panama Canal Zone College, and attended Bethany Nazarene College. He loved His Lord and enjoyed Bible Teaching and Working with Teens. He Sponsored lots of Youth Basketball Teams, Youth Mission Trips, and Teens to go to Youth Camps. He taught lots of Bible Classes of all age groups and a Bible Class on Sunday Mornings at Bickford of Mission Springs for 20 years. His favorite things to do included being with his kids and grandkids, deep sea fishing, lake fishing, reading the Bible, singing the Old Hymns, Praying to His Loving Heavenly Father, and Sharing God’s Love. Jim loved watching (while wearing the correct T Shirt) our KU Jayhawks Basketball Team, The KC Royals, and The KC Chiefs from his recliner at home. All of our teams did remarkabe things in the last several years. He was very proud of our hometown boys… The last 5 years he worked hard to recover from a massive stroke. He loved the people at the American Stroke Foundation and prayed for his friends who were working hard at getting healthier as they attended Classes at the Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center in Mission, KS.The 23 Psalm was a favorite scripture especially in the JB Phillips Translation of verse One ” Because The Lord Is My Shepherd I have Everything I Need!” He was a very compassionate, kind, gracious, loving soul who heard His Friend Jesus say,” Welcome Home” on Monday night.
