JAMES M. SPAITH was born on August 17, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas. He lived with his parents in Lenexa when 95th Street was a gravel road. He attended Shawnee Mission schools, graduating in 1969. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1973 at Baker University, and his law degree in 1973 from Washburn University. He served as a White House intern in 1974-75. He worked for the USPS as a labor attorney.
In his youth, he was very active in DeMolay. He was president of the Baker University Alumni Association as well as a member of Kansas Alpha, Sigma Phi Epsilon at Baker University, where he served as alumni board president during Brotherhood 2000, their building campaign for an addition to the chapter house. He was a member of Mensa, the Kansas City St. Andrew Society, the Lenexa Historical Society, the Kansas City Ballet Guild, and a friend of the Nelson Atkins Museum.
He was married to, and is survived by, Nancey Drissel Spaith in 1993. He is also survived by his sister Joan Spaith Smith of Denver, North Carolina.
Amos Family Funeral Home is handling the cremation with a memorial celebration planned when we can gather together in person. He will be missed.
