James F. Werner, 59, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Jim was born in midtown Kansas City to Fred and Juanita Werner. After high school and time served with the Kansas National Guard, Jim joined the Pipefitter apprenticeship program and graduated in August 1975. Jim rose through the ranks of Pipefitter Local Union 533 to become a superintendent for Scurlock Refrigeration, Midwest Mechanical Contractors and the Fagan Company. Jim supervised major projects in the Kansas City area including the New York Life Building (Aquila Headquarters), One Kansas City Place, Sisters of Charity Renovation in Leavenworth, The Water Works project in North Kansas City, and the Sprint Campus in Overland Park. Later, Jim became the primary project manager for the Fagan Company prior to his retirement in 2000.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Juanita Werner. Jim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Fran of Shawnee, Kansas; sister Nancy Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers Fred Werner of Raymore, Missouri, Bill Werner of Kansas City, Missouri, Joe Werner of Harrisonville, Missouri; daughters Kristin Warner (Brad) of Olathe, Kansas, Suzanne Reith (Don) of Shawnee, Kansas, son David Werner (Katie) of Leawood, Kansas; and five wonderful grandchildren. Jim was greatly loved by family and friends and will be missed everyday.

Memorial Service

A memorial celebration of Jim's life will be Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Inurnment will be private.
