Jim Wilson, 65, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on August 12, 2012, after being diagnosed 25 months and 6 days prior with Pancreatic Cancer, Stage IV. Jim was born July 26, 1947, in Omaha,Nebraska, to Ardath and Garl Alton (Tony) Wilson. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1965, and was a starter on the 1964 North basketball team that finished second in Kansas to Lucius Allen's Wyandotte High School team (Wyandotte 54-SM North 48). He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1969 and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Jim held positions in the Greater Kansas City area with Adams Transfer & Storage, April House, and USCO, retiring from Meritex Logistics with a total of 43 years in logistics management.
Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jane, of Olathe, Kansas; their sons, John (Margy) of Golden, Colorado, and Jamie of San Francisco, California; grandchildren Quentin and Annie Wilson of Golden, Colorado; brother, Don (Sandra) Wilson, and nephew Michael Wilson of Ann Arbor, Michigan; aunt Laverne Wood of Olathe, Kansas; uncle, Richard Frost of Houston, Texas; father-in-law, Walter Peters of Summerfield, Kansas; sister-in-law, Jennifer Peters and nephew, Ryan Peters of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and many other cousins, extended family, and close friends and associates. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim was a man of great character. He was fair, honest, and loyal to his family, in his pursuits and profession, and to his many lifelong friends. Jayhawk basketball was his passion, which was thoroughly instilled in his sons.
Jim's family and friends wish to thank Rakesh Gaur, M. D. and staff of St. Luke's Cancer Institute and St. Luke's South Short Stay for their incredible, compassionate care of Jim during his illness. They are also grateful for the expertise and outstanding diagnostics of James Abbruzzese, M. D. of MD AndersonCancer Center, Houston, Texas.
Memorial Service & Burial
At Jim's request, a private memorial service was held Monday evening, August 13, with Archdeacon Monty Giddings of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Private burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quenemo, Kansas, in October.
