October 14, 1949 — September 29, 2022

Roeland Park, Kansas

James Lawrence (“Larry”) Sullinger was born October 14, 1949, in Los Angeles, Calif., to James Merriam and Margie Lee (Cox) Sullinger. He entered into eternal rest on September 29, 2022, after a sudden illness.

Larry’s growing up years were primarily in Branson, Mo., his parents’ hometown, where he was active in Boy Scouts, and enjoyed the outdoors—camping, fishing, and boating with his family and friends in the Tri-Lakes area of southwest Missouri. He graduated from Branson High School in 1967; the following year, the family moved to Shawnee Mission in the Kansas City metro area, where, after briefly attending college, he worked at Owens-Corning Fiberglass, and a number of other jobs. He married Leslie Anna Ritz in October, 1969; they divorced in 1982. Larry went to work for the Kansas State Highway Commission around 1972, retiring from his role as Project Manager/Bridge Inspector in 2002. From September, 2002, until October, 2013, he worked as a Construction Supervisor for Cook, Platt, and Strobel Engineers before retiring a second time.

He married Myra Lyn McGowan on July 2, 1988; she preceded him in death on June 23, 2022. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Michael James Sullinger. Larry is survived by one son, Robert Lee (Sharon) Sullinger, and one grandson, Benedict James, all of La Mesa, Calif.; one sister, Kay (Scott) Wible, of Lady Lake, Fla.; two stepsons, Mike (Susan) Sullivan, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Kevin Sullivan, Mission, Kan.; sisters-in-law Janice (Jerry) Weaver and Bobbi (Ron) Maybell; nieces Lindsey (Greg) Atkins; Leigh (Doug) Congdon; Dana Hermelin; Melissa (Rick) Kuykendall; Katie Maybell; nephews Bryan (Lisa) Weaver; Derek Maybell; cousins Susan Pettit; Joey (Candy) Sullinger; Jeanne Sullinger, Shawn Blankenship, and many other loving family members and friends.
