Jane Haas-Scherman

Jane E. Haas-Scherman, 93, of Shawnee, passed away January 6, 2017.

Jane was born February 4, 1923, in Lenexa, KS, to Charles and Anna DeGrande. She had one brother, Bernard DeGrande, who preceded her in death in 2008. Upon graduating high school, Jane worked at Lenexa’s lumber yard as their office clerk. After World War II, Jane married John G. Haas on June 29, 1946. John and Jane owned the Western Auto Store in Tonganoxie, KS, from 1956 to 1978. They moved back to Shawnee, KS, in 1978 and Jane worked at Ted’s Manufacturing as a parts assembler until 1999. John died in 1993. They had three children, Lawrence (Mary) Haas of Westminster, Colorado, Kathleen (Tom) Bowman of Wakefield, Kansas, and Marilyn (Joe) Daniels of Tonganoxie, Kansas. Jane married Ralph Scherman on October 9, 1999. Ralph has 5 children, who became part of Jane’s beloved extended family: Jim (Gee) Scherman of Eudora, Kansas, Margie (Buck) Wilson of Holt's Summit, Missouri, Ann (Kirk) Fine of Kansas City, Missouri, Marian Scherman, and Susan (Dan) Skahan, both of Shawnee, Kansas. Ralph and Jane’s family includes 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Ralph survives at their home at Overland Park Place, Overland Park, Kansas.

Jane’s funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11311 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Shawnee.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jane’s name to the capital campaign of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
