After battling with cancer, Janet Patricia Riley, affectionately known as “Trish”, died on June 26, 2023, at Kansas City Hospice at the age of 61. She leaves behind her husband, Dennis Riley; and her daughter, Kristin Riley.
Trish was born on July 27, 1961 in Kansas City, MO, to father George Shore and mother Janet Shore. She grew up in an active and loving family with three sisters and one brother. They often traveled, and especially spent time skiing in the mountains of Colorado or spending time with relatives on the beach in Florida. Trish attended Peachtree High School, in Dunwoody, Georgia; before moving back to Kansas City, where she graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. She then attended Spring Hill College, in Mobile Alabama, before transferring to the University of Florida, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1983.
Trish moved back to Kansas City a few years after graduation, where she met Dennis Riley and they wed on July 10, 1999. Trish was a successful entrepreneur, starting a company that strived to help seniors obtain discounts on their medications. They had their daughter, Kristin, on December 6, 2000.
Trish was a driven professional with a love of her family, novels, shopping, exercise, and faith. When diagnosed with cancer in January of 2023, she remained dedicated to her faith and fought her illness with great strength, dignity, and valiance.
Trish is preceded in death by her father, George Shore; her father-in-law, Patrick Riley; and brother-in-law, Wallace Harvey.
Trish is survived by her mother Jan; husband Dennis; daughter Kristin; sister Sandy Durick, brother-in-law Bill Durick; sister Kay O’Neill, brother-in-law Terry O’Neill; sister Nancy Harvey-Smith, brother-in-law Alexander Smith; brother Larry Shore; her Durick niece and nephew; her O’Neill nephews, including her Godson; her Harvey nephew; her mother-in-law
Barbara Riley; numerous Riley sister and brother-in-laws; Riley nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
The funeral service will be held on July 12, 2023, at the Church of the Ascension, 9510 W. 127th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66213. The visitation will begin at 9:00am and a 10:00 AM mass to follow. A celebration of life will be held at the Barley’s on 119th and Quivira Road directly following the funeral service; all are welcome. Her ashes will be interred at Queen of the Holy Rosary WEA Cemetery with immediate family at a later date. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Kansas City Hospice and the University of Kansas Health System for their constant, compassionate treatment.
