Janice Lee Berry

October 27, 1936 — May 26, 2015

Janice Lee Fraker-Berry, 78, of Shawnee, KS passed away from surgical complications on May 26th, 2015 at the Olathe Hospice House. She was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on October 27th, 1936. Janice graduated from Conrad High School in 1954, where she was the class valedictorian, homecoming queen and a four year member of the basketball team. She continued her education at Coe College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Mo. Janice married Richard C. Berry on January 20th, 1958, which happened to be the heaviest snowstorm in the history of Kansas City on that date, at the Country Club Methodist Church. Janice held many jobs including: detasseling corn, bank teller/accountant, retailing at Woolf Bros., TWA reservations teletype operator, administrative/management positions for corporate word processing functions at H+R Block/ Jones & Babson/Black & Veatch, secretary to the Dean of Admissions at Pima Community College, Tucson, AZ, and assisted in the operation/management of the family owned Custom Framing Business, Des Moines, Iowa. Over the years, Janice resided in many places including Kansas City, KS, Des Moines, IA, Tucson, AZ, Thief River Falls, MN, El Dorado Hills, CA, Prairie Village, KS, Merriam, KS, and Shawnee, KS. She traveled in RV all over the US following historic trails such as the Santa Fe, Oregon, Lewis and Clark, and The Fur Trade Canoe Route through Canada to Montreal. She also took cruises to the Arctic Ocean, Russian Siberia, Aleutian Islands, Hawaii, Alaska and the Inside Passage. She is survived by husband, Richard C. Berry of Shawnee, KS; sons, Michael C. Berry of Monterey, CA and Douglas L. Berry of Olathe, KS; daughter, Joan L. Berry of Shawnee, KS; "The Magnificent Seven" grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (with two more on the way).

Services

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4th at Town and Country Villas, 7101 Hedge Lane Terr. Shawnee, KS 66227.
