Janice Elaine Harris of Lenexa, Kansas, died on Friday, October 7th, 2022.  She was born June 19, 1943, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Cullie B. Harris and Virginia Mae Turnbull Harris.

The family moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1953.  Janice graduated in 1961 from Norman High School, where she was a straight A student.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  She received a Master’s degree from Arizona State University and a PHD from the University of California at Berkley.  She spent her career as a professor of Nutritional Science at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City and was chairman of her department when she retired.

Janice was always a scholar and enjoyed her life as a professor, advisor, and administrator.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, and was a loyal member to her extended families. She served in churches as teacher and officer, and participated in many church charitable activities.  She was kind and considerate to all, and beloved by many.

Janice is survived by her husband Conrad Stokes, daughter Lori David (Mike), grandchildren Caleb and Ella David, brother Brent Harris (Carol), step-son Jeff Stokes (Lisa), step-daughter Karen Lee, step grandsons Scott Stokes (Christina), Brian Stokes (Julie), David Lee and their families, and many cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 15th, 2022 at 2 pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas. Donations may be made to the University of Kansas Medical Cancer Center .
