Jean A. Moran, 87, of Shawnee, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Sweet Life at Rosehill.

Jean was born on June 30, 1926 in Hargrave, Kansas to the late William P. and Rosa A. Moran. She was the last person to be born in Hargrave, Kansas.

Jean graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy, Atchison, Kansas in 1944. After graduating from high school, Jean earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Mount St. Scholastica College in 1948. She entered the Order of St. Benedict as Sister Finnian and then earned her Master's degree in 1958 from Notre Dame University. She served the community until the late 1970's. Jean taught high school and college mathematics for over 50 years. Most of her career she taught at Donnelly College, but she also taught at Penn Valley Community College, Avila University and several other schools in the Kansas City area. For many years in the summer, Jean taught mathematics at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee where she enjoyed outings with a group of colleagues and friends.

Jean is survived by her sister, Rita Pumilia; brother in law, Eugene Wendling; sister in law, Marge Moran and 21 nieces and nephews, including caregivers, Roslyn Bethke and husband Del; David Wendling and wife Nina; Paul Moran and wife Dorothy.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, August 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5501 Monticello Road, Shawnee, KS 66226. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in McCracken, Kansas.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church, Donnelly College - Mathematics Department Scholarship Fund; 608 N. 18th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66102, or to Catholic Community Hospice, 9740 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
