Jeanette Wade Sams

Jeanette (Jean) Wade Sams, 84, died Thursday, November 27, 2008 In Amarillo, Texas.

Jeanette Wade was born on Friday, June 6, 1924 in Enid, Oklahoma, to Clyde and Carrie (Dixon) Wade. On Thursday, December 31, 1942 she married Robert L. Sams in Alva, Oklahoma. Jean earned her Private Pilot's license in 1961 and loved flying her Cessna 170. As a young woman she was a member of the Motor Maids and had her own motorcycle that she rode regularly. Jean loved to crochet afghans for everyone and her knitted dish cloths were favorite gifts to family and friends. Fishing with Bob was one of her favorite pastimes.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of almost 66 years - Robert Sams of Amarillo, Texas - 4 daughters: Kandy Meehan-Gibson and her husband Tom of Leawood, Kansas and Wanda Grindstaff and husband Steve of Overland Park, Kansas - Judy Huckabee and her husband Jim of Amarillo, Texas and Patti Moran and her husband Patrick of Lee's Summit, Missouri - 1 Son: Randy Sams and his wife Sherri of Prairie Village, Kansas - 1 sister Gwen Swartz and her husband Pat of Phoenix, Arizona and a brother Richard Wade of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - 9 Grandchildren: David Milliren and wife Angie, Kenna Sluder and husband Josh, Tom Burns, Ryan Burns, Allison Legnon and husband Darron, Caitlin Meehan, Justin Sams, Carrie Meehan, Amanda Sams, 2 Great-Grandchildren: Davis and Austin Sluder. She is preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter: Faith Mary.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 6 - 8 pm at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am on Thursday, December 4, at the Chapel. Entombment will be Friday, December 5th at 2:00 pm. in Alva Municipal Cemetery, Alva, Oklahoma.
