Jerome Lee Gerard

b. November 3, 1935

Jerome L. Gerard was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 3, 1935 at the family home. Son of Robert A. and Lucile C. (Voirol) Gerard.   He attended Cathedral Catholic Grade School and Central Catholic High School.  He graduated in 1953.  During his teenage years he worked as a delivery man for Bushing Dairy, as a caddy at a local golf course, a sacker at Rogers Supermarket and a stock boy at Golden Men’s Wear.   In 1955 he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served in the Army Security Agency in Heilbron Germany for 3 years.  After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1958, he began working for International Harvester Company.  In 1980 International Harvester moved him and his family to Shawnee, Kansas.  In 1993, the offices in Kansas were closed and Jerry took early retirement, after 35 years of faithful service.   He was a hard working man and early retirement wasn’t for him, so he worked for the Internal Revenue Service and for JCPenney Catalog Distribution Center.   On October 7, 1961 he married the love of his life, Lorraine W. Wetmore. They have four daughters, Audrey L. Samek, Louisburg, KS, Cynthia M. Gerard, Lenexa, KS, Stephanie A. Romankow, Gillette, NJ, and Jennifer L. Gomes, Bethlehem, PA..    Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Robert A.Gerard, his mother, Lucile C. (Voirol) Gerard, his brother, Robert E. Gerard, his sister, Patricia L. (Gerard) Jett.  He is survived by his bother, Hugh A. Gerard, his wife of 56 years, Lorraine W (Wetmore) Gerard, His four daughters, their spouses, his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.   Jerry was a wonderful husband, an amazing father, an awesome grandfather and a terrific friend.  He will be missed by many.

Services

Visitation will be on Thursday Oct. 26th from 5:00-8:00 pm with a Rosary at 5:00 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. A Funeral Mass will be on October 27th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, temporarily located at the old St. Joseph High School gym, 11525 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas.
