Jim “Parrot” Carter

June 1, 1955 — January 8, 2018

James David Carter passed away on January 8, 2018, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018. A short visitation will be held prior to a 9:30 a.m. Rosary at the temporary facilities of St. Joseph Church in the Early Education Center (11525 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas).

Jim was born June 1, 1955 to Robert and Kathryn (Horan) Carter, who preceded Jim in death. Jim was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas. Jim attended and graduated from St. Joseph Grade and High Schools. Despite a notably tumultuous entrance on his first day of school, Jim had perfect attendance for thirteen years. Jim spent his entire working career with his brothers and cousin at Carter Glass Company. Jim was Secretary Treasurer and prided himself on diligently carrying out his corporate duties, working with family, suppliers, professional staff and employees. He counted many of the Carter Glass employees as his friends.

Even though Jim was not blessed with children of his own, he was generous with his time and treasures to his many nieces and nephews. They affectionately called him "Uncle Par-Par" (Parrot). He is survived by eight nephews, nine nieces, fifteen grandnephews, twenty grandnieces, and one great grandnephew. He was predeceased by one niece.

Jim is survived by five brothers and their wives, Jack (Cecilia), Bob (Joan), Terry (Sue), Bill (Charlene) and Tom (Jan). Jim is also survived by his companion of many years Alta Burd and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who considered Jim a grandpa. He was especially close to all of his cousins in the Cook family.

We will miss receiving Parrot's emails and posts espousing his Ron Paul Revolution and "Make America Great Again" positions; and, we'll miss his unique way of phrasing his positions known affectionately as "Dutchisms." We are saying goodbye for now to a loyal, honest and humble brother, uncle and friend. May we be reunited with Jim in eternal life with Christ our Lord.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018. A short visitation will be held prior to a 9:30 a.m. Rosary at the temporary facilities of St. Joseph Church in the Early Education Center (11525 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas) (the church is under construction and the visitation/rosary/mass all in the GYM of the Early Education Center.
