Jim D. Sullivan, 86, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away November 27, 2022. Jim was born on February 14, 1936 in Fairland, Oklahoma.
Jim grew up in Joplin where he played baseball and excelled as a football quarterback in high school and junior college.
After graduating with a business degree from Pittsburg State University, Jim moved to Kansas City where he worked for GMAC for 34 years. Shortly thereafter, he launched a second career as a realtor with Reece Nichols for 25 years.
Jim met Rosalie Roberts in 1960 and was immediately smitten. After an extended courtship, they were married on June 12th, 1965. Jim and Rosalie enjoyed a busy life of raising children, entertaining friends, traveling, and pursuing their careers. They cruised in Alaska, Canada and the Caribbean, and traveled to Hilton Head, Switzerland, Ireland and Hawaii. They loved to dance and had great fun square dancing on weekends.
Jim was a loving father, grandfather, and husband who put family first and faithfully attended his children’s activities. He enjoyed coaching his son's baseball teams, and he was president of the band parent's organization when they were in high school. His family meant everything to him, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson. He was devoted to his mother and his in-laws, and he participated in caring for them.
Jim had many friends and loved to socialize. Never shy, he was natural at hosting parties and making everyone feel welcome. Jim also enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer. For many years he organized his neighborhood golf tournament. He loved sports, especially the Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawks.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Sully and Maxine. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; sons, Jim (Judy Lombino), Mike (Michael Hadley), grandson Sean, and brother-in-law Dale Roberts. The family is so thankful to Catholic Community Hospice and Villa St. Francis for providing excellent care for Jim.
