Joan Marie Brody

Joan Marie Brody (born Joan Marie Corcoran and also known as Joan Nelson) was born in Newnan, Georgia, on June 27, 1954, to parents John Lewis Corcoran and Victoria J. Corcoran. She grew up in Tyler, Texas, where she attended Robert E. Lee High School. After graduating with a degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Austin, she went on to become one of the first generation of nurse practitioners in the United States.

Through the Master’s degree she earned at the University of Kansas and years of practice in the Kansas City area, she contributed to the development of the pediatric nursing profession and directly improved the lives of thousands of children and families. Her most recent employer was Cass County Pediatrics in Belton, Missouri. She also enjoyed painting, interior design, and the arts.

Joan is survived by her children Andrew Lawrence Nelson and Jennifer Elaine Nelson; siblings Kathleen Ann Martin, John Thomas Corcoran, and Lauren Elizabeth Henkhaus; and her mother, Victoria. All who knew her would attest of the great love and devotion she showed her children and family in good times and bad.

Memorial Service

A memorial service for Joan will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7845 Allman Road, Lenexa, Kansas, on Saturday, July 23 at 11 a.m.
