JoAnn Evans of Lenexa, KS passed peacefully on Friday, July 1st at the age of 80, after a well-fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease. JoAnn was born December 14th, 1941 in Marshalltown, Iowa to James Lawrence and Evelyn Marie Evans. She married Holman Evans in 1967 while she was teaching in Stockton, California and he was stationed at Beale Air Force Base. Holman and “Jo” moved to Tennessee, and then to Des Moines, Iowa, where their three sons were born. In 1988, the family relocated to Lenexa, KS, where JoAnn and Holman both eventually retired. During her long career in education, JoAnn earned her Master’s Degree + 30 and had attended the University of Northern Iowa, Drake University, and Emporia State University.
JoAnn was a brilliant, fun, and loving woman who survived cancer, a long career in education and raising three boys before being blessed with seven grandchildren. She most enjoyed time spent with family and friends, especially holidays, playing games, doing puzzles and "boating" trips to the lake.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Holman; 3 sons, Scott, David and Jim; and 7 grandchildren, Ben, Hannah, Noam, Halee, Ella, Jason & Alex.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Monticello United Methodist in Shawnee, Kansas. The visitation will begin at noon followed by a funeral service at 1pm. JoAnn will be laid to rest at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens immediately following the funeral. All are welcome.
