Joanne Goulding

Doris Joanne Goulding, 84 passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at KU Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Joanne was born at home on August 24, 1930, in the Rosedale neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas, to Martin and Nellie Leavell. She graduated from Rosedale High School in 1948 with National Honor Society membership. After high school, Joanne worked as an assistant and receptionist to both, Dr. Alvin Silvers MD and Dr. Patrick, DDS. Joanne met her future husband Edmond at the neighborhood drugstore in the fall of 1948. A devout Catholic convert, she and Edmond were married at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rosedale on June 23, 1951. While raising six children (all college graduates), Joanne found time for church and community service including: Refreshment Chairman for Shawnee Optimist Baseball League; Member of Meals on Wheels; Officer in St. Jude's Circle; 20+ years as St. Joseph Parish Coordinator for St. Mary's Food Kitchen, member of St. Joseph Parish Council, Cub Scout Den Mother, Campfire Girl Leader, Room Mother at St. Joseph Grade School, Officer in St. Joseph Parish Ladies Guild, member of Resurrection Choir, and supervising Judge for the Johnson County election board. Joanne was a lifelong Democrat whose sympathies were always on the side of the poor and disadvantaged.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Martin Leavell, Jr., and sister, Nancy Gochenoer. She is survived by her husband Edmond and children; Thomas (Mary), Theresa (Peter), Timothy (Julie), Mark (Brenda), Marianne, and Michael (Katy), her brother and sister-in-law Donald and Elizabeth Goulding, sister-in-law Millie Leavell, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and good friend Stephen Millin.

Visitation & Mass

A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm with visitation to follow until 6:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Sunday, January 4, 2015. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, January 5th also at the church, 11311 Johnson Dr. Shawnee, KS 66203.
