Joanne (Schmidt Pennock) Kirkham, 80, of Overland Park, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Joanne was born August 21, 1931 in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Marvin and Helen (Ries) Schmidt. After graduating from high school, Joanne worked at several clerical positions before marrying Wayne Pennock and raising a family. Later Joanne worked for Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance, Disney OnStage and most recently H & R Block.
Joanne’s many hobbies included golfing, reading, and playing bingo. She was a KU Basketball fan, sporting a Hawkalholic bumper sticker. Boppo spent many seasons as a proud supporter of the Graceland Women’s Soccer team. She was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church, was an active member and served as a wedding coordinator at Salem Lutheran. She was a national officer in Phi Tau Omega and a member of LICOMA.
Joanne is survived by her three daughters, Terri Danner and husband Walter, Lorri Coey, and Vicki Pennock; her son Scott Pennock; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; and her dear friend of 46 years Linda Wilcher.
A celebration of Joanne's life will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church, 9143 Haskins, Lenexa, Kansas 66215. Following the service guests are invited to lunch at the church to visit and share stories.
