Joel Ed Carlson, 75, of Shawnee, KS passed away Feb. 17th, 2014. Services will be held at Community Covenant Church of Lenexa with the visitation from 6 to 8 pm Mon. Feb. 24th and the memorial service 1 pm Tues. Feb. 25th. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, KS. Joel was born Jan. 6, 1939 to Maurice R. and Edna Carlson in Pampa, TX. He was the second of five children. On May 10, 1975 Joel Married Joy Skinner Mann, daughter of Harold and Ruth Skinner, at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, KS. In May they would have celebrated their 39th Wedding anniversary. Joel graduated from LawrenceHigh School in 1957, and graduated from EmporiaStateUniversity with a B.S. in Business Administration degree. He continued training with specialization in accounting and commercial credit. He worked as an Assistant Vice President /Commercial Analyst with Security Bank of Kansas City. Joel was an avid golfer and bowler he enjoyed many games with family and friends. He was very actively involved in his church, Community Covenant of Lenexa. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Joy Carlson, children; Mike Mann of Lawrence, KS, and Mindy Robinson (Roy) of Northhampton, England, grandchildren; Matthew Mann, Blake Robinson, and Michael Mann (Katie), along with their son, Mason.

He is also survived by his sister Donna Schneck (Merle) of Bonner Springs, KS, and brothers, Bob Carlson (Karen Sue) of Lawrence, KS, Paul Carlson (Shan) of Santa Cruz, CA, and Marc Carlson (Donna) of Longmont, CO. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Jerry Skinner (Virginia) of TX, sister-in-law Janet Skinner Breithaupt of Overland Park, KS, sister-in-law Judy Skinner Holyfield (Jim) or Carthage, MO, and many other extended family members and good friends who will miss his thoughtful and nurturing approach along with his dry sense of humor filled with classic "one-liners". Joel, you will always be in our hearts and know that you had a positive impact on many lives that will continue to have an influence on your extensive group of family and friends. In our hearts, Joel will be missed for his thoughtfulness, nurturing and dry wit.

Visitation & Funeral Service

A visitation will be held Monday Feb. 24th from 6 to 8 pm at the Community Covenant Church of Lenexa. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday Feb. 25th also at the church.

Memorial Contributions

Memorial contributions in Joel's memory may be made to the Community Covenant Church of Lenexa.
