John M. Arellano

June 24, 1934 — July 30, 2018

John M. Arellano, 84, of Shawnee, KS passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at Indian Creek Nursing Home. He was born on June 24, 1934 in Kansas City, MO, to Vincent and Antonia Arellano.   John was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Maria; daughter, Sonia Arellano. He is survived by his son, Nicholas Arellano; daughter, Antonette Arellano; grandchildren, Maria (Nanie) and Lily (Mija). John worked at Sante Fe Railroad for over 45 years and was a proud member of the Machinist Union. Something that always brought a smile to John's face was his family, in particular, his two granddaughters. Family was absolutely John's top priority. He played fastpitch softball and pitched for many years. John was inducted into the Kansas City Mexican American Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame, something he was incredibly proud of. Sports were a big part of John's life, as he was a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers and New York Yankees.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at Amos Family Funeral Home with a Rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
