John B. Creten was born into Eternal Life, surrounded by family and friends on February 26, 2012, in Shawnee, Kansas.
Born January 23, 1921, in Kansas City, Kansas, he was the oldest son of Frank and Bertha Creten. He spent his early life as a farmer in the Kansas City East bottoms. He joined the Air Corps and served proudly through WW II in the Pacific Campaign. Upon returning from the service, he continued farming until he started J.B. Creten Basement Construction in 1954. In addition, John built and operated six Skateland Roller Skating Centers in the greater Kansas City and St. Joseph markets beginning in 1954 through 2002.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mable (nee Vanlerberg), and his sons, J. Gary (Tammy) and Ronald (Margaret). He is also the proud grandfather of five: Luke Creten, Dea Sorensen, Tara Cox, Gretchen Caraher and Nick Creten. He has eleven loving great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Marie Creten, and his daughter, Marcie Ann Sorensen. He is also preceded in death by his three sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2012, at the church with entombment in Resurrection Mausoleum.
