John B. Daniel, Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the age of 71.
John graduated from Northwest Classen High School, Oklahoma City, where he played varsity basketball and volleyball, and was president of his senior class. He earned his undergraduate degree in engineering at Oklahoma University, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He went on to earn his Master's in Electrical Engineering at UMKC, and worked for many years at what is now Honeywell, designing missile guidance systems for the government.
John was an avid chess and bridge player, and earned the Life Master designation from the American Contract Bridge League. Referred to as "Pernelli Daniel" by some due to his driving style and lead foot (which he passed on to his son), John moved to California to pursue his love for golf. He moved back to Kansas City in the last year to spend his remaining years closer to his family.
John is survived by his son, Mike, Mike's fiancé Mallory Beyer, and John's former wife, Jean Crum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeri and John Daniel, Sr., and his brother, Dennis Daniel.
Visitation and services will be held at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, respectively, on Friday February 13, 2015 at Amos Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee, Kansas.
The family suggests contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.
