John Michael Deckard

Mike Deckard, a loving father, son, brother and life-long resident of Shawnee, KS, died unexpectedly on August 6, 2020 at the age of 55, while at home.

Mike is survived by his children; Brandon, Madison, and Dimitri, his parents; John and Beverly, and brother Matt.

Mike was born in Merriam on April 10, 1965 to John and Beverly Deckard at Shawnee Mission Hospital. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1984. He was a natural athlete who enjoyed water sports, baseball, football, diving, bowling, basketball, snow skiing, and was an avid golfer. As he got older, golf became his favorite sport. He played fantasy football, cards with friends, and attended his children's sporting events. He was an encouraging and proud dad. Mike was a friend to everyone he met. His smile and the twinkle in his eyes won't be forgotten.

There wasn't anything that Mike couldn't fix. His skills led him to work at Landworks for 20 years as a lead mechanic. When he wasn't at work, he was working on cars, dirt bikes, and even a boat that he and Brandon dreamed of going fishing on together.

His biggest love was his children. He taught them how to love family and enjoy life. He always encouraged them to follow their dreams.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 15 at 10 am at Herman Laird Park. We ask that you dress casually and people respect and comply with social distancing and mask requirements. If you are one who would need a chair to sit in, please bring one with you. If you wish to bring a letter about Mike for the kids to have and possibly be read in front of everyone.
