John Patrick Heffernon

John Patrick Heffernon, 73, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away Tuesday May 17, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.

John was born in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to Shawnee, Kansas as a child. He went to St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and was in the 1960 graduating class of DeLaSalle Military Academy. John joined the Missouri National Guard and served for 6 years. He married his wife Carol in 1967 and they had 2 boys. He was the proud owner of J. Barleycorn's Bar & Grill for 24 years until he sold the business and retired in 2007. John cherished his Irish heritage and all of the wonderful friends he met through the restaurant. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting several countries abroad, but he especially enjoyed the annual family trip with his wife, children and grandchildren to Branson each summer. The family benefitted from his love of and skill at cooking (especially Carol).

John is preceded in death by his parents John Paul and Eunice Heffernon. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol, his two sons, John (Vickie) and Michael (Elizabeth) Heffernon, sisters: Elizabeth (Jerry) Doherty and Margaret Flanigan and seven grandchildren: Katie, Bailey, Michael Patrick, Jake, John Charles, Max and Zach Heffernon.

A Rosary will be at 5 p.m., at Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS, Friday May 20, 2016 with a visitation to follow until 7 p.m. Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016.
