John P. Kettler

John P. Kettler, 82, of Shawnee, KS, passed away at home on June 28, 2018.  John was born on October 13, 1935, in Alton, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958.  After college, John worked for Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry-Dock as a piping designer and then went to work for Honeywell Inc. in Madison, WI where he met Ruth Schwenkner.  John and Ruth were married on June 23, 1962 and moved to Burlington, IA where they had their first son, Craig, in 1964.  John transferred with Honeywell to Milwaukee, WI where they had their second son, Keith, in 1965.  John went on to work for Johnson Controls in Milwaukee, later transferring to the Chicago area before taking a position with Tempmaster in Kansas City in 1979.  John finished his career with YORK International which acquired Tempmaster, and retired in in 2006.  Throughout his career John obtained several patents. In retirement, John and Ruth enjoyed years of traveling to exotic places including India, Israel, Egypt, Thailand and Morocco.  John also enjoyed trips to Virginia visiting Craig and his family (wife Felicia and children Katherine, Benjamin and Jay) as well as the time spent with Keith and his family (wife Tamara and children Charlotte and Kennedy) in Kansas City. John was an avid gardener and tinkerer who loved growing anything and fixing everything.  He was an extremely kind and patient husband, father and grandfather and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Services will be private.
