John C. Kimpel

November 18, 1923 — October 8, 2020

John C. Kimple, 96, of Overland Park, KS, passed away, Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Brookdale Rosehill.

John was born November 18, 1923 in Kansas City, MO to Ernest C. and Anna May (Tesar) Kimpel. He began working on the family farm in Fairway, KS. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School. He began his military service with the US Army in August of 1944 and was wounded in Combat in March of 1945. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Service Star. He was discharged in December of 1945.

After returning from the war, he worked briefly at General Motors and a school bus company that served the SM School District. It was there that he met his future bride, Theodosia, who was a secretary at Shawnee Mission North. They were married on September 12, 1952. She preceded him in death.

He worked at the Kenneth Smith Golf Company until his retirement. After retirement he volunteered at the Johnson County Christmas Bureau for 25 years.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Leroy Wisner, Merriam, KS; nephews and nieces, W. Kim (Janet) Wisner, Lenexa, KS, Janice A. McAnaw, Shawnee, KS, Diana L. Wisner, Merriam, KS and Dale L. (Lori) Wisner, Raymore, MO.

A military service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the Amos Family Funeral Home.
