John Francis Lynch, 81, Shawnee, KS passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 in Shawnee, KS.
John was born March 4, 1936 in Kansas City, KS to Thomas and Catherine Lynch. He was the second of six children. John attended St. Joseph Grade School and High School, graduating in 1954, and was a graduate of Park College. John retired from the Kansas Gas Service Co. He served on the Shawnee City Council for 16 years. John was instrumental in developing Shawnee's Sister City Program and traveled abroad representing Shawnee on multiple occasions.
John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 327 and Irish-American Club.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Lynch and two sisters, Kathleen McCoy and Mary Ann Coffman. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Leora (Harrity) Lynch; three children, Thomas (Erin) Lynch, Shawnee, KS James (Michelle) Lynch, Bonner Springs, KS and Jennifer (Christopher) Elliott, Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Bernadine Gabel, Kansas City, MO and Josephine Lynch, Mission, KS; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Jeffrey, Eleanor, Bridget, Sean, Jack, and Elizabeth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (temporary church at the gym of the old St. Joseph High School, 11525 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, KS); entombment in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Amos Family Funeral Home, where a rosary recitation will be at 6:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Little Sisters of the Poor or a charity of choice.
