John C. Mcanany

John C. McAnany, 83, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away October 8, 2010, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, Kansas.

John was born February 18, 1927, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Patrick D. and Julia R. (Guignon) McAnany. He was a graduate of Rockhurst High School, attended Rockhurst College and received his BA degree in English from Mexico City College. John was a veteran of the US Navy. In 1954, John joined his brother, Richard in McAnany Construction and retired in 1988. He was an active volunteer with St. Mary's Food Kitchen and helped anyone who needed it. John enjoyed golf, woodworking and especially working in his garden.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Doyle) McAnany in 1994 and brother, Richard McAnany. He is survived by his wife, Elise McAnany, daughter, Molly E. Egger and husband, Jim, Shawnee, Kansas; two sons, Robert E. McAnany wife, Marianne, Shawnee, Kansas and Ted A. McAnany and wife, Kathy, Spring Hill, Kansas; sister, Julie Rice, Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Patrick McAnany and wife, Charlaine, Oak Park, Illinois and Emile McAnany and wife, Rosemary, San Jose, California; sister-in-law, Betty McAnany, Lake Quivira, Kansas; three step-children, Kathy Curry and husband, Jack, Lenexa, Kansas, Tim Tarwater and wife, Pam, Overland Park, Kansas and Tom Tarwater, Albuquerque, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice.

Visitation and Services

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church; burial in the Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 -7:30 p.m., Monday, Octoaber 11, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, where a prayer service will be at 5:30
