John R. Cochran

John was born in Johnson County, Kansas on 2/15/33 to Katherine and G.D. Cochran and was raised with his older sister Virginia.

He excelled at Shawnee Mission High School as class president and participated in track and football. He later married the love of his life Marlene a former cheerleader and future Mrs. America 1967. John enjoyed a long and successful law career practicing law throughout JohnsonCounty from 1959 to 2003.

John worked to put himself through Washburn Law School while married and was a member of Naval ROTC. He graduated from Washburn in 1959 and opened his own law practice. In addition to practicing law, John was one of the founders of Santa Fe Trail State Bank in Merriam and developed two real estate subdivisions-Bittersweet Estates in Shawnee Mission and Bridlewood Estates in Gardner. He was a devoted city judge for 25 years in the towns of Gardner and BaldwinCity. He also served on the board of the City Union Mission and was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. John was an active member of the Kansas City Triumphs Sports Car Club and could be seen zipping around the countryside and city streets with his two loves, Marlene and a 1963 Triumph TR 3B. John's immense love for his family overshadowed all of his accomplishments and he will be greatly missed.

John and Marlene were blessed with 3 children, Dr. Kimberly Cochran, attorney Matthew Cochran and massage therapist and artisan carpenter Craig Cochran. He is also survived by his son-in-law Stacey Gray, friends June Robinson and Levon Robinson; grandchildren include Katie Scaduto and her husband Michael Scaduto, Thomas Gray and his wife Kaitlin Gray, Casey Shreve, Brighton Gray; Great grandchildren Liam Scaduto and Graycen Scaduto all in the Kansas City area.

The family would like to extend a deep heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Sweet Life at Rosehill and Heartland Hospice who we count as our friends and who gave John unparalleled care.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the funeral home.
