John A. Rentko, Ret.) Sr.

John A. Rentko, Sr., 94, of Shawnee, KS, passed away, Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Healthcare Resort of Olathe.

Mr. Rentko was born in West Hazelton, PA. He served in the US Navy from 1943 till 1966, retiring as Master Chief Petty Officer, E9. He served on the USS Broadbill which swept for mines prior to the Normandy invasion. He was stationed at the Olathe Naval Air Base. While in Olathe, he met his wife, Evelyn and they were married November 16, 1955. He served all over the world before meeting Evelyn. After his marriage, he lived with his family in Hawaii, Michigan, Atsugi, Japan, and Louisiana. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a facilities manager at Pembroke Country Day School and later at Farmers Insurance Group, retiring in 1988.

His wife, Evelyn Rentko preceded him in death in 2003. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Andrew, Joseph, Margaret, Mary, and Eleanor.

He is survived by a son, John A. Rentko, Jr.; a daughter, Nancy Redick; four grandchildren, Bobby Redick, Christopher (Erica) Redick, Matthew (Stephanie) Redick, and Lauren Redick and three great grandchildren, Olivia, Adeline, and Joseph Redick.

Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 11 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Visitation will follow the service from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Casual attire encouraged. Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
