John J. Rieke, of Lenexa, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 17th, 2014 at the age of 79. He is finally reunited with his wife of 54 years, Nola Ann, who preceded him in death on August 20, 2011.
John was born June 8, 1934 to the late A.C. and Effie Rieke in Kansas City, KS. He was one of the founding owners of Max Rieke & Bros, Inc. John was a hardworking man who always put his family first. He never met a stranger and was known for having a huge heart, and for his generosity. John was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known and loved by many.
He is survived by his children, John Rieke, Jr. (Susan); Jean Maurer; Joyce Warriner (Todd); Jane Swortwood (Michael); Julie Bauer (Christian); 12 grandchildren, John, III, Aaron and Cole Rieke; Jason and Wesley Maurer; Amanda and Tiffany Warriner; MJ and McKenzie Swortwood; Jack, Ryan and Mark Bauer; and two sisters, Margaret Peters (Don) and Patricia Lynch. John is also preceded in death by a granddaughter Lauren Rieke.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m Wednesday, May 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Dr., Shawnee. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 3 p.m. at the church. John will be laid to rest next to his loving wife in the Holy Family Mausoleum in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd St. Overland Park, KS 66212.
