John A. Scherman, 94, of Shawnee, KS, died Saturday, January 04, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House.

John was born January 30, 1919 to the late Walter H. and Elsie Scherman in Lenexa, KS. John attended Holy Trinity School. He served as a Radar Mechanic in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and earned the rank of Sergeant. After his service, John married Emma Stifter on June 18, 1949 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas. Emma preceded him in death in June of 2011, after 62 years of marriage. He owned and operated John A. Scherman Office Products, Inc. for over 30 years. John was a talented woodworker. He carved over 1000 pieces that he gave to family and friends, several pieces won Grand Champion at the Gardner, Kansas Fair. John was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and role model. He was a generous, charitable and kind person to everyone he met.

Survivors include his three daughters, Ruth Evarts and husband Norman; Rita Hotchkiss and husband Robert; Teresa Winke and husband Bob; a son, John R. Scherman and wife Sherry; eleven grandchildren, Jason Gorup; Kirstin Calvert and husband Jake; Kelly Snyder; John Gorup; Jenny Ndiaye and husband Aly; Rob Hotchkiss; Crystal Hotchkiss; Michelle Peterson and husband Mike; Kevin Humble and wife Abbie; Lisa Scherman; Anthony Scherman; eight great grandchildren, Jacob, Kameron, Tyler, Laney, Whitney, Sane, Levi, Isla.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 7th at the Amos Family Funeral Home, the rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Lenexa.
