John Matthew Smith passed away the morning of Friday, January 1, 2021 in the comfort of his Overland Park home with his wife of 65 years by his side.

Born August 29, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah, John married Della (Jokumsen) Smith in 1955. A self-educated man, John moved to Kansas in 1968 to work as a broker for PIE Freight. He would hold several such positions at 3 subsequent trucking companies. In 1995 John co-founded and operated AAA Transfer in the Kansas City Northeast Industrial District until selling his stake in 2009.

John was a generous and warm spirited man who enjoyed visiting with his friends, playing golf, following sports and spending time with family.

He is survived by his brothers Randy and Tony, sister Matti, wife Della, daughter Shawnna, son Rick, 8 grandchildren (Becky, Della, Shawnna, Cole, Jared, Destiny, Tony & Myria) and 8 great-grandchildren (Soncee, Ethan, Christian, Matti, Soren, Quinn, Gracy & Sawyer).
